Envisioning Access Website
Greetings from the Executive Director

At Envisioning Access, we talk a lot about technology. Living and working in Boston, we are surrounded by some of the most exciting scientific developments in the world—biopharmaceuticals, AI, robotics, and more—all powered by brilliant minds. We're fortunate to count some of those minds among our board members: scientists, technologists, and leaders in the animal and disability fields who view our work through a powerful lens of innovation and discovery.

Amid all the tech talk, we never lose sight of our core mission. At Envisioning Access, our purpose is simple yet profound: to support individuals living with physical disabilities in reclaiming independence, returning to work, accessing education, and staying connected to their loved ones. Many of our staff and board members are or have been caregivers, and some of us live with physical disabilities ourselves. We understand—intimately—that the work we do sits at the intersection of science and humanity.

Earlier this month, some of our team attended a local tech summit featuring emerging innovations in AI, robotics, and even cryptocurrency. We were privileged to meet seven young entrepreneurs who pitched their new technology. Only one was focused on disability inclusion. That moment reaffirmed our mission: to encourage more innovators to consider the needs of people living with disabilities, and to ensure our community is not left behind in this era of rapid advancement.

That’s where you come in. Your support helps us continue collaborating with tech startups and universities to bring inclusive, life-changing technology to the people who need it most. Wounds of War: The Growing Need for Disability Technology in the Veteran Community

Each time the United States engages in a new war or combat situation, a new generation of wounded veterans returns home—many with complex and permanent disabilities. While advances in battlefield medicine are increasing survival rates, they have also resulted in a growing population of veterans with amputations, spinal injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and other lasting impairments. These visible and invisible wounds require long-term, adaptive solutions.

Yet despite decades of repeated conflict, the nation has not adequately invested in the assistive technologies needed to support these individuals. The technology gap continues to limit independence, mobility, and quality of life for thousands of veterans.
