New Adventures for Billy and Phoebe

After my accident I was at a low point in my life. The arrival of my service monkey Phoebe from Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers changed everything for me. Now Helping Hands is doing it again. The organization is offering me the opportunity, through participation in their virtual reality (VR) pilot projects, a whole new adventure and opportunity. I hope that you can support this Innovative Technology work as well as the ongoing care of all the monkeys.Billy and his monkey Phoebe

As you can imagine, as a happy energetic young guy how small my world became with my accident in 2017 when I discovered I could no longer move from the neck down. Even trying to constantly be positive the knowledge of the physical limitations of my life was overwhelming and isolating. That began to change with the arrival of a little ball of energy and love named Phoebe. When Phoebe arrived, she changed my life. Not only did she perform the tasks of a service animal, but she also filled my life with joy and reignited my own inquisitiveness.

Now with Phoebe to help guide me along, we, together, are excited to participate in Helping Hands’ pilot projects around virtual/augmented reality. As Phoebe opened the door for me, literally and figuratively, to regain some of my independence—Helping Hands through these new pilot projects—are widening that scope of independence and outside engagement for countless others.

In conjunction with the staff at Helping Hands I will work with new VR partners to give my input on how to make the tools used in some of this technology accessible. Adequate funding is needed to provide staffing to build the technology and insure everyone can access VR for gaming, healthcare, and/or socialization.Billy with a tablet and a mouth stick

I am excited that my voice will ultimately help others today and in the future. Just like Phoebe and Helping Hands is here for me and I am excited to be available for Helping Hands; Please make a gift this year to make a difference for those of us who are living with physical disabilities. We can’t do this work without you!

Warm regards,
Billy and Phoebe
